Donors are invited to "Adopt-A-Project" at the NextAid Youth With A Vision Community Center and Children's Residential Village.  During phase two of construction, eleven major buildings/structures that feature energy efficient design and utilize natural building techniques and materials have been planned and designed by our dedicated team of architects, natural builders, and our program director, with input from our local partner organization stakeholders.

To view a complete proposal for the Adopt-A-Project program, please download the proposals below. These PDFs outline the overall village project, provide background information about NextAid, and include thumbnails images of each structure with a short description and price. They are easy to download and send around to people and companies that might be interested!

NextAid will customize a recognition program based on the needs and desires of the participating business or individual.  Donors will be able to witness the progress by receiving photos during construction, receiving acknowledgment in creatively designed signage on the structure, and for a certain level of contribution, we will organize an incredible visit to South Africa, including a trip to the site, around Johannesburg and the surrounding areas!

One-sheets describing each project are listed and downloadable below, including the Main Center, Nursery, Children's Residences, Greenhouse, Construction Workshop and more.  Please review our full Adopt-A-Project list. We are excited to begin phase two of construction with our new partners at Architecture for Humanity who are coordinating architecture and construction expert staff (see our project on the Open Architecture Network).  Our projects also continue to provide jobs in the Dennilton community as we hire builders who have been trained during our past three annual natural building workshops.

We plan to officially open the doors of the village in spring 2008 upon the completion of phase two. Your support to realize this goal and to positively impact the local community and economy is greatly appreciated! We welcome individuals, groups, families, companies, schools, clubs, and others to join us as donors in our Adopt-A-Project Program.

We are pleased to thank the following architects for their support to create plans and renderings:

Adopt-A-Project List and Descriptions

Available projects are listed below with descriptions and links to its corresponding one sheet.  All designs by Joseph Kennedy, unless otherwise noted below. If you have interest in more information than the one sheet provides, please contact us by email at info[at]nextaid[dot]org.

1. Main Center - $110,000 USD View one sheet for full Main Center PDF >
Main Center Design by Joseph Kennedy, rendering by Geofrey Collins, floor plan by Louise Lakier

The main center will serve as the focal point and hub of the NextAid Youth With A Vision Community Center and Residential Children’s Village.  It will be a resource for children living in the village and for neighboring youth and local residents. Education, enrichment, and empowerment programs will be held in this facility through after-school classes, adult education and special seminars and trainings.  Sustainable economic development will be emphasized by providing offices, facilities and learning opportunities for the local community to run their own micro-enterprises that generate income for themselves and the overall operation of the center and orphan care.  The twelve Main Center projects are listed below:

a. Library/Study Room - $25,000 USD view one sheet PDF >
The library will be used by Youth With A Vision residents and youth members as a traditional library and educational resource center. It will also be accessible to members of the greater Dennilton community to enhance educational opportunities and adult literacy, making it Dennilton's first public library and a greater solution to the inadequate public school facilities in Dennilton. NextAid and Youth With A Vision will solicit donations of appropriate and varied books and reading materials in English and tribal languages (Zulu and Sotho).

b. Computer Lab - $25,000 USD view one sheet PDF >
The computer lab will provide a space for Youth With Vision to teach computer and media technology to the community. After-school enrichment classes will be provided for the center's youth, and vocational training courses will be held for young adults to expand their career and income generating opportunities. Classes will be taught by international and local volunteers as a free service to the center's beneficiaries.

c. Classroom - $8,500 view one sheet PDF >
The classroom will be used by Youth With A Vision to serve multiple purposes. The youth residents and school-age children from the community will utilize the space for after-school enrichment and education classes such as: college prep, academic tutoring, conflict resolution, life skills, girls’ empowerment, and HIV/AIDS awareness. The classroom will also hold courses and seminars for adult community members in areas such as: adult literacy, micro-business and finance, women's empowerment, and home-based care or community social work training. This will answer Dennilton’s need for an education resource center other than the inadequate government schools.

d. Craft Workshop - $7,500 view one sheet PDF >
The craft workshop will be a multiple use space for Youth With A Vision to run their craft production micro-enterprises. The room will accommodate local craft-makers and provide a safe facility to keep their equipment and supplies. Current and future crafts to be produced from the center include: African clothes making, beaded jewelry and other bead crafts, woven items, and art. YWAV is the recipient of a grant from the South African National Development Agency for training and seed money to launch four micro-businesses via the center. The craft workshop is an essential facility for the operation of their proposed businesses. Income generated by craft sales will benefit the craft-makers who are predominantly low-income women or HIV/AIDS positive people. Teenage participants will also be encouraged through an apprenticeship and generation exchange program. A percentage of all profits will be cycled back into Youth With A Vision's general operating fund to support the ongoing orphan care and center's programs.

e. Art Studio - $7,500 USD SOLD! to DJ Dan
view one sheet PDF >

The art studio facility will provide a much needed space to hold art classes for students of all ages at the Youth With A Vision Center. After-school and weekend art classes will be a regular part of the center's youth programming open to children who live at the center and to local youth. Dennilton has no facility for arts enrichment. The public schools do not teach art due to lack of budget and facility. Classes will be taught by local and international volunteers. An emphasis on exploring cultural art forms will be emphasized by having elders from the community share their knowledge with younger generations. When not in use by youth programs, the art studio will be open to adults in the community to use the space for the development and production of income-generating craft products such as: paintings, greeting cards, photography, and recycled/found art creations.

f. Micro-business office - $5,000 USD view one sheet PDF >
The micro-business office will serve as the administration facility for Youth With A Vision's income generating projects and programs. The office will accommodate the Micro-Business Project Manager and include desk space for project participants or individual business managers. Proposed micro-enterprises for the center include: jewelry and bead crafts, clothes manufacturing, community cinema, a snack and tuck shop, an internet café/ business center, local arts and crafts, a bakery, facility rental, and on-site catering for conferences. NextAid is also exploring partnership opportunities to include a micro-loan center within the YWAV village. Revenue generated from these micro-enterprises will benefit the business entrepreneurs and participants with an emphasis on projects that provide opportunities to traditionally disadvantaged demographics, such as low income women and HIV positive people. A percentage of all profits will be cycled back into Youth With A Vision's general operating fund to support the ongoing orphan care and center's programs.

g. Conference Room - $8,000 USD
view one sheet PDF >

The conference room will serve multiple uses for the Youth With A Vision Center. It will be a gathering space for youth leadership meetings, staff meetings, executive and advisory board meetings, adult volunteer gatherings, and intimate trainings or seminars. Community leaders have expressed interest in renting such facilities on our site to hold government workshops or training sessions for community groups. This venue rental opportunity will generate income to support the ongoing operations and economic sustainability of the center.

h. Youth office - $5,000 USD SOLD! to OM Records
view one sheet PDF >
The youth office will be the primary facility for the administration of youth programs at the center. It shall accommodate the Orphan Care/ Youth Program Director and any assisting staff. There will be additional space within the office for the Youth Leadership Council (teenage group) to conduct their business and have access to office equipment and facilities.

i. Agriculture office - $5,000 USD view one sheet PDF >
The agriculture office will serve as the primary administration area for all of the center's agricultural business. Youth With A Vision engages in organic vegetable gardening and poultry farming as a means of sustainable food security and income generation. Future agriculture plans for the center include planting fruit and nut orchards as well as having small farm animals such as goats or dairy cows. Food grown on-site will be used to supplement store bought groceries for the center's orphan care and after-school feeding programs. YWAV is the recipient of a grant from the South African National Development Agency for training and seed money to launch a major agriculture project at the center which will promote food security and economic empowerment within the community.

j. Volunteer office - $5,000 USD view one sheet PDF >
The volunteer office will accommodate the needs of Youth With A Vision's team of adult volunteers from the Dennilton Community. The team of over 20 volunteers will give their time every day to conduct various programs to benefit the community. Volunteers will do school outreach and education for HIV/AID awareness, conduct support groups for HIV/AIDS infected and affected people, conduct home-based care visits to identify and serve vulnerable children or elders, and work on-site to operate the after-school nutrition program and enrichment activities as well as work in the gardens. These volunteers need a space to call their own, where they can hold meetings, assign taskforces, coordinate with each other and do their reporting and paperwork.

k. NextAid Office - $5,000 USD view one sheet PDF >
The NextAid office will provide a space for international volunteers or NextAid personnel to work on-site in Dennilton. It will be an area for long-term or short-term visitors affiliated with NextAid to conduct their work in the areas of: natural building, capacity building, administration, orphan and childcare programming, and community development. NextAid envisions a program of cultural knowledge exchange, whereby volunteers will live and work on-site for terms from two weeks up to a year to provide training and enrichment opportunities at the center in areas such as: arts, technology, business management, and education.

l. Courtyard - $5,000 - USD view one sheet PDF >
The courtyard will be the focal outdoor area surrounded by the main center of Youth With A Vision. It will be a gathering place and outdoor alternative space for meetings, classes, or seminars. It will feature beautiful landscaping with flower beds and indigenous trees/ plants as well as shaded table and seating areas. This will be the favorite spot of center staff, youth, and volunteers to have a tea break, catch up with friends, eat lunch, and enjoy good weather.

2. Greenhouse and Seedling Nursery - $3,500 USD view one sheet PDF >
The greenhouse will serve Youth With A Vision's agricultural purposes by providing a protected environment to grow plant and tree seedlings. Current pursuits at the center include permaculture techniques such as organic vegetable gardening, composting, tree planting, water harvesting and poultry farming. With a greenhouse facility, YWAV will be able to make these endeavors more sustainable by nurturing and growing plants on-site, rather than paying for purchase and delivery from a local nursery or grower. There is income generating potential with the greenhouse facility as the center's gardening volunteers can grow tree seedlings and sell them in the community for a profit. This has the added benefit of encouraging "green" beautification and food security community wide.

3. Guesthouse - $25,000 USD view one sheet PDF >
This house will provide lodging for up to 8 guests, volunteers, or visiting eco-tourists. The house will include four bedrooms with two beds each, wardrobes, and cabinets; a kitchen complete with a stove, refrigerator, sink, table, and chairs; a common room with couches and shelves; a shaded patio/outdoor space; a compost toilet/solar-heater shower bathing area; and gardens.

4. Preschool/Nursery Day Care Center -
$25,000 USD
view one sheet PDF >
The structure will provide warm and secure indoor and outdoor spaces for children from infancy to pre-school age to play and learn. The day care will serve children who live on-site and children of the center’s staff so they can bring their children to work. The center will also provide limited general care for off-site families.

5. Playground - $15,000 USD view one sheet PDF >
The playground will provide a secure outdoor space for children from infancy to pre-school age to play. It will not only provide entertainment for the children but will also assist in attracting new children to the area, boosting enrollment in the after school programs.
